Hi Mom!

Bear on Film

So PAX came and went, and we had a blast at the show. It was great meeting tons of fun new people, and even a few existing fans! I have to admit, it was a bit nerve-wracking being interviewed at the show. It was bad enough just talking to a magazine reporter, but a few podcasts came by with little pocket recorders as well. I really had to keep myself from saying “um” and “like”. And as you can see from the above picture, I was even interviewed on TV! Luckily, my wife Christina was standing by to make sure that nothing was stuck in my teeth.

Despite most of the attendees consisting of 18-35 year old men, there were a surprising number of young kids visiting the show as well. It was a blast seeing them check out the book, and watch the music videos. (Though I think all of the people working in nearby booths were well sick of them by the end of the show.) We even had little Carl pins to give out to fans young and old. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to do more shows like this.

Of course, we have some more stuff in the works, and we’re almost ready to spill the beans! I’ll be posting some news on a few of our new projects soon… I think people will be a bit surprised.

PAXplosion!!!

PAX 10!

Wow. Suffice to say, I wasn’t expecting this. “What is Bothering Carl?” was selected as one of this year’s PAX10! Given that PAX10 is a indie game competition, this didn’t seem like a very likely outcome. I had already resigned myself to the fact that I was most likely not going to be selected, but I figured it was worth throwing my hat in the ring anyway. Obviously, I am glad that I did!

Christina and I are super excited to be headed to Seattle to show our “game” off at the 2009 Penny Arcade eXpo! I’m now hard at work cooking up some fun surprises for the show. So if you are attending PAX, make sure to stop by to say hello!

Congrats to the other 9 games too! I’m off to read about them now. You can check out all the entries here.

Summer in Full Swing

July 14th, 2009

Christina (the wife) here.

We’re well into summer, and there are many exciting adventures to report over here at Story Fort HQ. We’ve been busy making the trade show circuit, first at BEA (BookExpo America) in NYC and then NECC (National Educational Computing Conference) in DC. Met some great people and made some excellent contacts, including one very exciting meeting that’s coming up at the end of the month.

The accolades continue pouring in from mom bloggers all across the blogosphere. We’re hoping to get a Press page up very soon, with a collection of our reviews. In the meantime, check out what girlymama, Teach Mama, and Mums the Wurd have to say about What is Bothering Carl?.

Amidst all the busyness with Story Fort, we’ve had some time to relax this summer, including a trip to one of our favorite cities, Montreal. Apart from France, Montreal has some of the best yogurt and ice cream I’ve ever tasted. I would make the six hour drive just to get me some more of that!

Lazy Days of Summer

June 3rd, 2009

Ah… summer. Finally here! As you can see here, my coworker Oscar knows exactly what to do:

Oscar Chillaxin'

If only my summer was going to be that relaxing! Unfortunately, the rest of Story Fort is much too busy for snoozin!

After his nap, Oscar and I also decided to celebrate the season by dropping the price of “What is Bothering Carl?” to a recession friendly $9.99! There is no better time than now to see what all the great buzz is about…

Oh…

You mean you haven’t heard about our buzz?

I may have to fix that soon…

Twitter Baby!

April 30th, 2009

My wife Christina has been super supportive with this whole new business thing, even going so far as to work for me when she gets home from her full-time job. It is pretty amazing. She been doing a great job of getting the word out about Story Fort, and she recently started up a Story Fort Twitter page! I’m going to try to keep everyone updated on all the new developments coming up. This is going to be an exciting summer for Story Fort!

Twitter Baby!

And I haven’t forgotten, my lonely co-worker Oscar will get his day in the sun too soon…

Story Fort HQ

March 30th, 2009

Here is Story Fort HQ in all its glory! This is pretty much my home away from home, except that it is home. Just in the basement. It is a very cozy little office actually. You can see my vintage leather office chair, Viking SpongeBob, a wedding photo, and my awesome marble President plaque:

My Desk!

Next time I’ll have to show you a picture of my single co-worker hard at work….

I got carded!

March 26th, 2009

Well, I finally got myself some official business cards to dole out! I think they came out looking pretty nice. One side is scary Carl, and the other matches the menu style from the book. Now I just need to work on finding people to give them to… Hmmmm…..

My B-Card!

It’s time for a song!

March 13th, 2009

I uploaded the first music video to Vimeo a couple days ago, and added it to the “What is Bothering Carl?” product page as well. I figured people would want some sort of song sample before purchasing, and the video just makes it even more exciting :). Enjoy!

Welcome!

February 23rd, 2009

Welcome to Story Fort! I am proud to finally launch this site, along with my first interactive book for kids - What is Bothering Carl?. Make sure to try out the free trial and see what you think! You may also notice some changes over the next few days as well as I settle into my newborn site.

Amazingly enough, I ended up launching on the birthday of Dr. Seuss! Pretty cool. It wasn’t at all planned, but it sure is neat! Hopefully, my books can begin to inspire kids in the same way his books inspired me.
